Under My Skin by Zoe Markham is the story of Chloe, who once used to be a teenager just like all others. But then she died and her father, a scientist, turned her into some sort of zombie. Chloe is alive and dead at the same time. She and her father move to a different town, as nobody can find out that Chloe is still kind of alive. Chloe is only allowed to leave the house once she mastered the art of making herself look normal with plenty of make-up. But was it such a good idea to let her interact with other people when her father's secret is so dangerous to them? And what would happen if Chloe fell in love? How could she hide her dead-ness on closer inspection?

Under My Skin by Zoe Markham is not a book for lovers of mindless zombies who only eat brains - this story could not be further from the usual zombie plot. I am always sceptical when I pick up a book that mentions the word 'zombie,' but the description of Zoe Markham's book sounded different. And it was pleasantly different. Chloe is a likeable character, and you feel for her, you cheer for her, you want her to find a solution to her problems. It is a well written story that makes the reader feel involved, but at the end the reader is left hanging, wondering what will happen to Chloe, and
whether unanswered questions will at some stage be answered. Chloe's story is an unusual and pleasant change from the zombie stories readers usually get to read. While I wished for a different outcome, the ending gives the reader a hint that there will be more to this tale, and we could definitely use more of this kind of writing.
