Unmuted: How to Show Up, Speak Up and Inspire Action is a work of non-fiction in the business and communications subgenre. It is best suited to the professional adult reading audience. It was penned by author Heather Hansen and is narrated in its audiobook format by the author. Building on the workplace crisis that was brought about by the 2020 pandemic, Hansen looks at the new age of communication in a world of remote working, displaced working communities, and the new purpose of language in a sea of digital voices. Encouraging collaboration, resourcefulness, and innovation, the advice within this work can be utilized in all manner of professional settings and in our interpersonal relationships in general.

In terms of its construction and organization, author Heather Hansen delivers a must-read for both newcomers and old hands in the art of business communication. Her pre and post-pandemic insights are well researched and presented in a format that builds gradually without ever being too overwhelming. I particularly enjoyed the differentiation between being able to speak and actually being heard and how we can ensure that our contributions are not just vocal but also valuable to others.

In terms of the audiobook presentation, the self-narration that Heather Hansen provides only serves to intensify the message. She speaks with great passion and enthusiasm on the subject of communication and totally exemplifies the point of her work by communicating clearly, effectively, and engagingly throughout the whole recording experience. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend the audiobook format of Unmuted for those seeking an accessible and engaging route to more effective communication.
