The heart has reasons that the brain doesn’t understand and vice versa. At times, a triggering event can make them come to terms with each other and a glorious epiphany takes place. T. A. Belshaw’s Unspoken is a poignant family drama that makes this insight apparent as you explore a family secret that has been in hiding for ages. Jessica is a journalist who is suffocated by her toxic marriage. Calvin has been a lying, cheating, and pathetic excuse for a man up to this point. Jess’s great-grandmother, Alice, never liked him from the start. Alice becomes bedridden as she approaches her centenarian mark, and the little time she has remaining will make her connect to her great-granddaughter. These two women are about to discover a common issue that needs to stop—and it has something to do with the men in their lives. Jess is about to receive a shocking revelation, and she must not risk it happening again.

This is an intriguing and heart-stopping novel. It has a plot that contemplates the evils of domestic abuse as it demonstrates two characters with a common thread who live in different times, each trapped in an unsolvable dilemma. Unspoken, like most family dramas, involves a family member who is burdened by a long-running secret that must be revealed for the sake of closure. T. A. Belshaw effortlessly keeps the narrative in balance while shifting from the past to the present, giving us a close and personal glimpse at the respective lives of Alice and Jess. It is a passionate story with great redeeming quality at the end. This is a moving tale—one that is sure to win your heart.
