Urban Faery: A Modern Fantasy by Angela Savidge is the story of a woman who just wanted to reconnect with nature, but got a lot more than what she thought. When Cate started wading into the ocean, she had no idea that she would be swept away by a powerful tide. She just wanted to get closer to nature; she didn’t want to die. However, her life is saved by a mysterious surfer named Luc. He is a descendant of the Fae, devastatingly handsome and simply too good to be true. Surprised yet attracted to each other, Luc and Cate had a connection that they could not deny. With Luc, she got what she dreamed of and found out that there is a lot more to this world than meets the eye.

I am a sucker for mythology and any novel that educates me about something new is automatically an absolute favorite of mine. The author delves deeply into Welsh mythology and, considering that it is a novella, she did a tremendous job at not only providing great information but also making the novel entertaining. I enjoyed the fast pace and the details of the story. The author added a lot in the pages and ensured that every detail was perfect for the story. It lacked nothing; the protagonists had chemistry, the setting was believable and the narrative was perfection. Cate is such a relatable character; you can feel her need to find some meaning in life, anything that will keep her afloat and give her a reason to move on. This is a wonderful start to a series that is going to be a great success. I can already imagine more mythological races being explored and more well-developed characters in the series to come.
