Paige Reynolds considered herself a plain Jane and sourced validation from social media platforms. She didn’t have a huge following on her accounts; her likes were low, and comments were discouraging. Alexis, her former high schoolmate, heightened Paige’s insecurities because she was the social media star with a huge following. She visited places that Paige could only dream of, but unbeknownst to her everything was a lie. When Paige found out that an agency helped create this illusion, she jumped on board. The partnership turned her into the star that she always wanted to be. However, like every addiction, the indulgence put her on a high, while the consequences dropped her to rock bottom. Will she overcome this addiction? Vicarious Vacations by Michael Wojciechowski holds the answer.

Wow! By the time I finished reading Vicarious Vacations by Michael Wojciechowski, I screamed “Reality Check!” This isn’t just a book, but an awakening to the dangers of the digital world we find ourselves in today. I realized that many people have friends on social media, but are lonely in reality. Phones have replaced human interaction, and we’re largely influenced by the false lifestyle of social media. This has resulted in rising cases of depression, anxiety, bad choices because of FOMO, and even suicide. Michael has woven a powerful story around well-developed characters and striking dialogues. The plot was unique, with immense depth and flawless delivery. As a parent and social media user, this book brought me to a place of self-awareness and contentment. I strongly recommend this novel to young adults and parents who have teenage children.
