Victor Moody the Mosquito-Boy and Faploom-Japloom by Hafeez Diwan is an entertaining young adult fantasy novel about a young boy that turned into a mosquito. When Tundra Tunnel becomes the new game craze in town, Victor checks the three dollars and five quarters in his pocket and realizes that it is close to impossible for him to buy one for himself. And then he meets a mysterious stranger that offers him ten thousand dollars. What follows is an adventure into an amazing fantasy world that pits him against a super genius opponent. What is at stake is the future of the world itself!

Hafeez Diwan's Victor Moody the Mosquito-Boy and Faploom-Japloom is certainly a delightful read. Victor Moody, one of the main protagonists in the story, is an ordinary boy turned into an unlikely hero, and his character comes out quite sympathetically. Professor Broog, on the other hand, is the epitome of a villainous character. Cold, calculating and determined, he is a very formidable enemy. And Faploom-Japloom, the giant tomato that turns out to be Victor's spirit guide, is simply lovable. Author Hafeez Diwan weaves together these unforgettable characters, a fantastic world called the Broogville, and a story that is both joyful and magical and the result is a novel that is difficult to put down. This is a story that should appeal not only to young adult readers but to all kinds of readers in general, and it reminds us that greed is a feeling that should be kept in check all the time.
