Violet the Hugging Octopus by Sherry Duquet is a vibrantly illustrated children's book telling the wonderful story of Violet's journey to teach her friends a very heartwarming trick. All of her sea creature friends are curious to know how she stays so bubbly and positive. She swims with confidence, radiates happiness, and is bursting with joy. It's no wonder they're curious to hear her secrets! Violet goes far and wide to spread the word of how a simple action can boost the energy of everyone around. Violet taught them to hug themselves, to remember that each one of them was unique and rare; she taught the ocean love, courage, and self-acceptance.

Violet the Hugging Octopus by Sherry Duquet (illustrated by Mark Wayne Adams) is a wonderful story. The pages are heartwarming and bright. There is so much color and creativity in every detail of Violet, her friends, and their environment; it's impossible not to get lost in it all. Any child would adore the illustrations. Sherry does a great job at keeping the rhymes and the flow of the story easy and smooth. There's not too much text, simple enough to keep the attention span, and the message throughout is very important not only to the children listening but to the adults reading the story aloud. This is a must for any child's bookshelf. Violet the Hugging Octopus is beautifully illustrated and written and tackles a lesson not always easy to handle. A great read for any age and a daily reminder that we are all perfectly perfect by just being ourselves.
