Vory is the sixth installment of The Charlemagne Files series by K.A. Bachus. Set in the early 90s, the book follows Charlemagne -- an elite team of specialists used by western governments for their top-secret operations. Leader of the Section Frank Cardova and his family, including his wife Maryann Vilseck and daughter Theresa, have a target on their heads when the son of a former foe returns for vengeance. For years, David Bertram has waited to avenge his father's death and punish those he holds responsible. Mentored by a Vory and former Soviet Intelligence officer, David has to get through the impenetrable Charlemagne to complete his mission. Meanwhile, an ex-wife of a Charlemagne member switches sides, making the task of protecting Theresa even more difficult for the team. Charlemagne will soon discover the deadly price of their mission.

Fans of crime drama or action-packed thrillers are in for a treat with Vory. K.A. Bachus' book begins with a bang and continues to entertain with its fast-paced plot until the finish line. Akin to Guy Ritchie movies, the narrative is uber-stylish, with a dialogue-driven story full of characters who leap off the pages with their vibrant and distinct personalities. Despite the multiple POV cast, Bachus ensures each of the characters has their share of page time to make their impact felt by the reader. The book also functions perfectly well as a standalone. Overall, I very much enjoyed Vory and recommend it to lovers of crime drama thrillers.
