Walk A Mile by Joey Paul follows the path of 18-year-old newly trained Police Constable Hetti Fyfe as she negotiates the harrowing realities of law enforcement in the year 2050. These realities hit her on her first day at work when she is called to attend a murder site that will propel Hetti on a whirlwind ride through imminent danger, intrigue, criminal analysis, and investigation, where the destination is far from certain. What is certain is that the longer it takes to solve this mystery, the more people will be placed in peril, and in the process of unraveling this mystery, things could become very personal for Hetti. Once the final piece of this puzzle is solved, all that will remain are the shockwaves from a final revelation no one will anticipate.

Joey Paul’s Walk A Mile is a quality read, with a nice amount of characters that each have distinct personalities and traits, which will present the most discerning of readers with someone to become attached to. The relationships are portrayed skillfully, with Hetti’s family genuinely displaying the love, trust, friction, biases, and concerns that you would find in any typical family unit. Another aspect of this story that was cleverly manipulated related to the relationship between DS Flint and Hetti; this not only came across as actual animosity but also served to shift focus to the Detective Sergeant. All told, Walk A Mile is a solid read for those seeking a criminal investigative adventure that will hold you in its grasp until the climactic confrontation unfolds.
