Featuring detailed maps, beautiful photography, and a blend of historical and modern-day information, Walkabout Malibu to Mexico: Hiking Inn to Inn on the Southern California Coast is the perfect resource for hikers and beach lovers keen to explore Southern California on foot. Author and walkabout enthusiast Tom Courtney brings a goldmine of personal knowledge to readers curious about the coastal trails, and the book functions as both a trail guide to the terrain as well as a travelogue documenting some of Courtney's own walks along the Pacific. In addition to details about the types of shoreline hikers will encounter - and where they'll need to veer inland to avoid obstacles or during high tides - readers will also find suggestions in all price ranges for where to eat, drink and lay their heads for the night.

I really loved this book, and found it incredibly informative. The photos made me want to jump up and get hiking, and all of the information included was well presented and organized. The only downside was reaching the Mexican border and realizing the journey had ended! Whether you're a keen coastline hiker or just want to try something different on your next vacation, Walkabout Malibu to Mexico is a brilliant addition to your library. As a newcomer to San Diego, I immediately flipped to the last two hikes - "Oceanside to La Jolla" and "La Jolla to Mexico" - to peruse the images and itineraries covering the shores of my new hometown. Courtney captures both area must-sees like the Hotel Del Coronado as well as lesser-known spots for the best fish tacos you can eat seaside. Hungry for more, I'm eager to put this book to practical use on a few day trips and walkabouts of my own. This book is sure to come in handy when planning vacations as well as staycations, and appeals to both locals and tourists eager to get up close and personal with the Pacific Ocean and the rhythm of their own two feet.
