What I Tell Myself About Talent is an educational picture book for children, grades k-3, written by Michael Brown and illustrated by Lovyaa Garg. All kids have interests, things that make them sit up and take notice, and many have noticeable skills and interests. All kids are talented in some way or another, but many of them never realize that their talents can evolve and grow into lifetime pursuits. Each kid is different. Some gravitate to the arts: painting, drawing, sculpting, photography; others light up at the thought of being on the stage or singing with a band. Still others aspire to be like their teachers, their doctor, or the fireman in his big red truck. The sky is truly the limit for children as they explore their world and the things that move them.

Michael Brown’s What I Tell Myself About Talent offers kids the opportunity to think about their own talents and skills, and to consider what they want to do in life, and it does so in an upbeat and illuminating way. Often, kids feel adrift and may not have given thought to the things that make their world rock. As they read this positive and self-affirming book, they can think about the different options shown and consider which ones appeal to them. Sometimes, it’s easy when a child is naturally gifted at one particular thing, such as playing the piano, but most of us have a multitude of interests, skills, and yes, talents. Exploring the options becomes exciting; this book shows just how to do that. Lovyaa Garg’s bright, zany, and colorful illustrations work quite well with the storyline and make all those talented characters feel real. What I Tell Myself About Talent is most highly recommended.

All children have talents of their own and What I Tell Myself About Talent by Michael Brown encourages caregivers to help their children find those talents. This eye-catching installment in the What I Tell Myself series—a series geared toward empowering and inspiring children as well as their parents and caregivers—promotes the exploration of a child’s talents through everyday things the child likes to do. By fostering such talents, caregivers can help children find their place in life and form healthy relationships with others and themselves. What I Tell Myself About Talent inspires children to try new things, learn from failures, and not only find their talents, but celebrate their uniqueness.

What I Tell Myself About Talent is a motivational book that will be easy for young children to follow along with. I think this book would be best read with a parent or other responsible caregiver present. Having the child read the book aloud in this way can help enforce the positive messages the author communicates. What I Tell Myself About Talent is inclusive of multiple races, a fact I loved. It also gives disabled children representation, which is excellent because it promotes the fact that children with disabilities also have a lot to bring to the table. What I Tell Myself About Talent conveys helpful and meaningful messages that boost confidence and help lay a framework for future success. The story is well edited with engaging, relevant illustrations and fun, attention-grabbing fonts that children are sure to love.

What I Tell Myself About Talent by Michael A. Brown and Lovyaa Garg is an adorably inspirational story with beautiful illustrations and bright colors. The poetic book revolves around different children and adults as they follow their dreams and use their talents to the best of their abilities. From collecting stuffed animals to constructing buildings, each person has their own talents that can be put to great use in their everyday lives! Everything about this book was fun and lighthearted, and I would absolutely recommend this book for children. The message portrayed in it is a necessary one to teach young children, and this book does a great job of conveying the idea that everyone has their own individual talents.

I absolutely loved What I Tell Myself About Talent! The illustrations by Lovyaa Garg were gorgeous and such fun to look at. Each page was vibrant and visually appealing, and they matched the tone of the story written by Michael A. Brown. This book was happy and cute, but it also shared a great and important message that children can struggle with at times throughout their young lives. Everyone has their own talents; no two people are the same. It’s what makes all of us unique and special. When it comes to teaching this concept to children, I think that this would be a lovely book to read to them. It is easy to understand because of its lyrical nature, and the pictures are stunning. Overall, it was super enjoyable!
