Whispering Wind by David E. Scott is a short story about a boy named Whispering Wind. Whispering Wind is in pursuit of a buckskin mustang named Twister. Twister is a wild mustang with its own personality and he refuses to be caught. Despite Twister’s wildness, Whispering Wind is determined to prove that he can capture Twister. Whispering Wind knew that if he could capture Twister he would then become a man. Whispering Wind sits and waits patiently to capture the buckskin mustang, Twister. As Whispering Wind leaps to capture Twister, they ride around so wildly that the two become one. Whispering Wind realizes that in his pursuit to capture Twister he gets more than he has bargained for.

Whispering Wind by David E. Scott is a beautiful short story. Not only is the storyline great, but also the illustrations throughout the book helped to orchestrate and tell the story. David E. Scott and illustrator Christine Irizarry did a great job in bridging the gap between the story and the story’s backdrop. The story and the backdrop contain bold vivid colors that reminded me of the Native American culture. The color palette with its richness appears to be set in Mexico and/or Arizona, especially due to the hills and mountains displayed throughout the book. Children of all ages will truly enjoy this book and will have pleasure in looking at all of the luxurious color illustrations used throughout the tale. The scenic landscape will definitely help children become a part of Whispering Wind.
