World of the Innocent by Nadine C. Keels is a promising and powerful coming-of-age story. Jhoi, pronounced Joy, is a young adult and talented poet. In World of the Innocent, Jhoi tells about her time at The Ourmorie, where she meets with a group of creatively gifted college students after class to practice their art skills. There she also meets Marcas, who is known as The Singer. Jhoi and Marcas had gone to high school together before meeting at The Ourmorie but never spoke before until one fateful summer. Theirs is the story Jhoi tells; a story of two young adults learning what it means to love, hope, and bravely embrace an unknown future together.

I loved reading Jhoi and Marcas’ touching story in World of the Innocent. Nadine C. Keels’ way with words quickly drew me into their world. She has a way of writing short stories that pack a punch. I loved meeting the characters in this book! Jhoi and Marcas have an exquisite friendship and a shared passion for art. Nadine offers unique perspectives in her writing that she explores as they tackle tough topics. World of the Innocent is a lovely example of this inspirational writing style. Jhoi's story is told from the heart and is paired with an uplifting tone of hope as she learns to embrace her feminine side. I enjoyed seeing Jhoi’s journey of self-discovery as she dares to try new things. The events in World of the Innocent are based on a true story and tell a touching coming-of-age story that is sure to please!
