Year of American Discontent: Essays on Crises of Division, Disinformation and Dysfunction in 2020 by Kris Murthy is a unique volume of thoughts, feelings, and opinions on the turbulent year of 2020. Indeed, it has been one of the most crisis-filled years in recent history. This book brings together a variety of takes on the flash fires that were going on at the time, from political division to police violence, race riots, pandemic hysteria, isolation, and apathy. You'll find this book to be refreshingly objective, encompassing thoughts from all sides, which really defines America itself. Starting out as a blog by the author, these articles can now be found in this digest. Racial injustice is just the tip of the iceberg. It seems all of our social systems were affected or infected by dysfunction and mistrust.

Sometimes we have to put distance between ourselves and history to analyze and understand it. We can all analyze and opine about what went on in 2020, but to say we can understand it may take more time and distance than we realize. For sure, this book will help get a historical perspective on the events of 2020 and help us sort out our own feelings about the upheaval of that year. But hopefully, it can help us on the path to recovery. America does need healing, and talking about it is an excellent first step. But you'll find more than just a downbeat attitude about 2020. There is the glimmering hope of positive change in these pages, and that perhaps defines America more than anything else. For a retrospective on the times, events, and culture of 2020, you must pick up a copy of Year of American Discontent: Essays on Crises of Division, Disinformation and Dysfunction in 2020 by Kris Murthy.
