Halloween comes alive with real monsters when an object falls from the sky and a sinister being rains disaster on a small Indiana town. With no adults to help them, a group of children has to save the world in the thrilling middle-grade adventure novel, Zombies, Fireballs, Snakes, Death, and Candy by P. J Stetson. While skipping trick or treating to capture a squirrel with his drone, Quinn and his younger brother, Trevor, discover a Mayan artifact and take it home. During an argument between Quinn and his twin brother, Declan, Trevor gets blood on the ancient stone, bringing it to life. It declares it will bring an end to the world in an hour if they don't bring it a specific item, and in the meantime, a catastrophe will occur every ten minutes. Calling the stone Ender, the boys are dubious about its so-called powers and think it is a prank. Immediately, Ender knocks out the power grid, and ten minutes later, every adult turns into a child-eating zombie. Now that they know Ender is for real, what are they going to do? Hunt for a sacrificial lamb? If so, they only have an hour to find one.

Giving the series Goosebumps a run for their money, Zombies, Fireballs, Snakes, Death, and Candy by P. J Stetson is a chilling and unforgettable tale! It is a scary story filled with terrifying creatures and frightening situations. The plot is outstanding, and the characters are lifelike, creating an incredible account of survival and heroism. With death stalking them, the children's genuine natures and characteristics are revealed. Courageous and selfless, Declan is my favorite character. By putting the lives of his friends and brothers ahead of his personal feelings, he proves himself to be a true leader. I loved how, in the end, Declan recognizes and acknowledges his self-worth. With the heroes and heroine fighting monsters on a time limit, the story is a nail-biting edge-of-the-seat scary novel that will thrill middle-grade students who are fans of horror stories.
