The book “It’s All in Your Mind” by Lyndsey Sharratt is written for everyone who has a goal in life he or she would like to fulfil but needs some advice on how and where to start. Written by a psychologist and coach, the language is friendly and easy to understand. When the book requires the use of scientific terms, these are clearly explained. Every idea is accompanied by examples from the author’s personal life and concrete imagery to illustrate abstract concepts. The book gives the reader a plausible explanation about why sometimes people find it hard to change their lives despite their aspirations and their desire to follow them. Biology, the cognitive factor and social environment determine who we are and how we perceive ourselves. Once we understand the mechanism behind our perception, we can reprogram our mind and work towards our own goals.

I enjoyed reading this book because I felt as if a friend was talking to me. The author wants to help others to live the lives they want. By personal examples she actively proves that change is possible and happiness is just another habit that people can acquire. It is a book that one can always get back to whenever they feel stuck and need a push to carry on the path they set for themselves. I recommend this book not just for its overall message but for the exercises within too: establishing who you think you are, explaining why you think you are that person and changing your state of mind in order to become the person you want with your own goals, despite external expectations set by family, friends and society.
