Author Biography

Linda David is a single mother of two and currently work as a college lecturer in childcare. She was born in Cyprus in 1967 to parents who both hail from the Caribbean island of Nevis, and has also lived in Germany as well as St Kitts and Nevis in the West Indies.

The idea for the book, The Firestone Crystal, came about 10 years ago when she was on maternity leave, and started off as a short story that she would be able to read to her children when they were older. It continued to grow as she occasionally added a chapter here and there as the years went by, eventually turning into full-length novel.

She has always enjoyed reading and was encouraged to do so from a very early age, and that is partly what inspired her to write. Even today, she can remember the excitement and wonder she used to experience as a child when reading fantasy and adventure stories, and she hopes that through her writing, she will be able to inspire and encourage other children's interest and pleasure in reading as well.

Thea isn’t quite your average girl. Sure she has the normal teenage girl problems like which clothes to wear and how to make her school uniform more unique and of course there is the fact that her parents just don’t understand her. But there is also the fact that she is the only student from Earth on a faraway planet learning about things no one in her entire world could ever dream of. "The Hidden Realms of Firestone" by Linda David tells the story of a girl who is facing more complicated challenges than she ever expected to face during her high school years. She is making new friends, dealing with classes and of course facing down a couple of mortal enemies while she is at it.

I definitely liked the way David made this story seem very real. Even though it is a very futuristic story and includes a lot of mythical creatures, she was able to make "The Hidden Realms of Firestone" and the characters in it seem very realistic. They act just like people their age would act on our own planet even though they are different in their own ways. (After all you can’t expect a girl who is part cat to act completely normal.) The characters seem to evolve very well throughout the course of the book and you can’t help but be drawn into all the different aspects. It is surprising how everything is so interconnected and you’ll be shocked to find out the culprit, or culprits, behind the entire situation that Thea and her friends find themselves in.

I've just finished reading THE HIDDEN REALMS OF FIRESTONE and if you thought the first book THE FIRESTONE CRYSTAL was good (as I did) then let me tell you, this second book is great! I was not disappointed at all. There is even more adventure and more mystery in this second book. The author was juggling a few balls in the air in this book, having different plots going at the same time but she successfully pulls them together into a sensational story that you don't want to put down! You want to keep reading to find out what's going to happen next.

The story takes you from a Caribbean island holiday in Nevis back to planet Aruuliah where the action doesn't stop. Thea is in danger from the very beginning and you're wondering who she can really trust right up until the end. I couldn't figure out who the bad guys were. We learn more about her family and friends as well as discovering more of the mysteries of the Firestone Academy and planet Aruuliah. There are unusual classes, bizarre creatures, and plenty of mind-twists and fantastic revelations along the way. It's all mind-boggling stuff!

This book is for any child or adult who likes reading sci-fi/adventure/fantasy all rolled into one. It's truly an exciting read and I hope there will be a third book in the series.

I really love how these books stretch your imagination and encourage you to believe anything ... and everything ... is possible!

Linda M. David ... we want a Book 3!
