Self-Sabotage? What Is It, Why We Do It, When We Do It, How to Overcome It? by Cris Baker is a self-help motivational book that guides the reader into the all aspects of the self-sabotage mechanism. It is something that we all have and its intention is to deceive us from facts and reality and offer us a false perspective of truth. The book shows readers how to question their thoughts, how to accept different perspectives of the same situation which can all be true, as well as how to attract positivity in their lives. The book is packed with examples from the author’s personal life, explaining what he did wrong and how he had overcome those situations. Learning to listen to your intuition and make a distinction between the truth and the falsehood imposed by the self-sabotage mechanism can lead to a more fulfilled and authentic life.

The book is interactive and enjoyable to read. The chapters are well organized and the author also emphasises that they can be read in any order. At the end of each chapter there are a few questions for the reader that summarize the content. They finish with a short conclusion that reinforces the ideas presented in each chapter. There is also a series of questions and answers at the end which I found very informative, summarizing the entire book. The book is not conceived as a gospel that people should just accept, but as a guide meant to challenge their beliefs, the author advising readers to take from the book what works for them, regardless what other people or society expects from them.
