When Khalen and Skye came together, they found a surprising affinity and the promise of a shared destiny that will not only benefit them, but could bring new hope to the entire Spirian race. In Union: Spirian Saga Book 2 by Rowena Portch, the journey continues, but it is still filled with obstacles and challenges. Still haunted by grief and guilt over Valerie's death, Khalen is reluctant to bind himself to Skye. Instead, he tries to nudge her towards joining with Aidan. Skye is also challenged by the sudden changes that came with discovering her Spirian heritage and her connection with Khalen. Despite her visual impairment, she has always valued her sense of independence, but in her new life, this causes friction with Khalen. To make matters even more complicated, the Shadows fear that a union with Skye will empower the Protected and they seek to prevent this. As a result, Skye battles supernatural assailants, as well as a romantic rival, in the form of fiery Kiara. A showdown between the two rival factions is looming, with Skye right at the heart of it.
Skye is unconventional, strong and resourceful, and she does not necessarily wait to be rescued by the man in her life. She is not afraid to speak her mind either, and she does not settle for second best. All of these combine to make her a suitable and very likable heroine. The story also shows that the transition from an ordinary human existence to being the fulfillment of a much-anticipated prophecy is not always easy. If you enjoy reading about challenges facing supernatural beings with a healthy dose of romance and real life added for good measure, you will no doubt enjoy Union: Spirian Saga Book 2 by Rowena Portch and be keen to find out more about the Spirians.
