Author Biography

Albert Singh Veloso Mullés was born and raised in Tacloban City to an Indian father and a Filipina mother of Portuguese descent. His father, Alberto Singh Mullés, had a great influence on the young novelist, and was his source of culture and art that would later form the pillar of philosophy for the budding writer. The mother of the author, Susan Veloso, is from the Veloso clan whose roots were traced to the Galician noble Diego Veloso who served the crown of Queen Isabella I of Spain or known as the La Catolica. The Portuguese explorer migrated to the Philippines sometime in the 16th century during the height of the galleon trade. Their Philippine descendants still carry to this day the Official Coat of Arms granted to them by King Alfonso.

Albert or “Alby” to his friends is a proud Waray-Waray and Bisaya, having spent a greater part of his childhood in the beautiful coastal town of his mother, Hinundayan, Southern Leyte and in the metropolis of Tacloban. After high school, he joined the Augustinian congregation to become a missionary apprentice for the religious order. He later left after serving a self-imposed regency, founding his love in being an English teacher.

He has one daughter, Breanna Sofia, whom he “loves very much more than anything else in the world.” He lives to this day in Tacloban to go back to the quiet life of the country, writing and teaching during his spare time. His hobbies include discovering the country's local sights and sounds. He loves pingpong, movie marathons and food tripping. He dreams of travelling around the world someday.
