When a paranormal investigator lets loose five fallen angels from Hell’s gate, it’s up to Sage and her allies to stop them before they bring total destruction to the world. One of the fallen angels, Meditrina, has plans of her own by becoming queen of the vampire clans with world domination in mind. Crown of Thorns (Sage's Cross, Volume 1) by E.M. Keelan is a fast paced, modern supernatural tale that brings a fascinating ensemble of characters to life.
I gravitated towards Sage and her group. Sage McKenzie is a Nephilim (half angel, half human) who’s hunting her own father, a fallen angel, for killing her mother. A charismatic leader, Sage helped so many people but it takes a toll on her, emotionally and physically. Rowan, a tough warrior with a deep hatred of vampires, is a loyal friend who would stand by Sage until the end. I have a soft spot for Hazel, the newest member of the group. She’s a psychic who tries to fit in with the other two. Her character develops as the story progresses, adding depth to the story as a whole.
Keelan deftly makes the story intriguing from the get go. Combined with great fighting scenes and humor, it’s an entertaining read. Crown of Thorns should easily appeal to supernatural fans; its vividly imagined world should please anyone who loves a good story with popular supernatural beings – angels, fallen angels, Nephilim, werewolves and vampires. The thrilling plot will give readers plenty to be excited about and look forward to the continuation of the story. Indeed, this is an exhilarating and praiseworthy series from Keelan.
