The final leg of the journey begins for Sandrine, Michael and the rest of the survivors but it won’t be easy. The Survivors, Book IV: Spring by V.L. Dreyer takes the group further south into the winter with obstacles on the Central Plateau, but then on to the coast where they hope to establish the new city of Tumanako, the city of Hope. Sandy is looked upon as the leader, but she also knows that everyone has their own strengths to contribute. What is right for one in the group is right for all, so when she is accused of murder, she stands trial. Unfortunately, the young man wants to take justice into his own hands and fires a gun with devastating consequences. The spirit of unity continues, though, as he is taken in hand by one of the ‘old group’ and learns to contribute to the good of all. In spite of so many obstacles, the group remains steadfast and works together to achieve what they hope will be lasting success. With the hope of a vaccine to prevent the spread of the infection to new generations, will Tumanako be the beginning of a new world or the final resting place of the hopes and dreams of humanity?
Full of challenges and threats, The Survivors, Book IV: Spring completes the group’s physical journey to a new home. Natural disasters make the trip difficult, but the amazing sense of cooperation that has developed among the group members helps get them through. V.L. Dreyer supplies plenty of action and heartfelt emotion as the characters experience a wide range of triumphs and tragedies so you can’t wait to see what happens next. Sandy is a great character – she is not perfect but is willing to learn and lean on others who can provide better answers. She represents tremendous growth and determination that rubs off on her followers and everyone is all the better for it. This series, although stretching the bounds of reality at times, is not only well conceived but also well written and offers a model for what society should be without the rise of a zombie apocalypse to force the issue. I loved the books! They are all wonderfully engaging and offer a great view of the struggle to survive and, more than that, rebuild and succeed.
