Amanda Running Scared by Georgina Sellwood begins with edge-of-your-seat suspense which carries throughout the entire story. The heroine, Amanda Vanderbilt, is attacked at a party. With her surgeon husband killed two years prior and being the sole parent of a three-year-old daughter, there is much at stake. When Amanda flees the pursuer, handsome Bruce Palmer is cornered into rescuing her. His reluctant involvement is the result of almost being roped into a marriage. His lack of trust toward women has left him avoiding relationships. The resulting romantic interest causes much internal turmoil for both characters, mainly due to contrasting lifestyles and social status.

Georgina Sellwood inserts humor between stressful scenes which varies the pace and keeps the story believable. For example, while initially hiding from Bruce, Amanda spots a large spider crawling on the wall toward her. Everyone reading can put themselves in her shoes. The surprises within this tense plot make for an enjoyable reading experience. The story also addressed the fact that Amanda had never had a personal relationship with Jesus, whereas Bruce had recommitted himself. The author skillfully illustrated contrasting lifestyles and sincere family relationships, and the results of both, such as attending church only for social reasons.

As the main characters travel across the country, contrasting weather conditions and international legalities add further dimensions to the story. Characters become increasingly three-dimensional and captivating. As the main characters develop true feelings for each other, it is obvious that faith has become a strong part of their lives. Very enjoyable.
