In a lovely and interesting new novel offered by author Claudette Carrida Jeffrey, readers are offered a glimpse into the past. The Color of Life follows the story of 23-year-old Claire Soublet. She's excited to start her new life in New York City, but, unexpectedly must return to New Orleans after only a short time. She finds out that the woman who raised her, Serafine "Sera," was really her great-aunt, and had lived quite a life herself. Involved with her business manager, Leonard, Sera's life was one of secrets. But Claire refuses to be sucked into her past, and is determined to set a new course for herself, one in which she can make her own path and dreams.
I so enjoyed The Color of Life. Author Claudette Carrida Jeffries has done a fantastic job in creating an environment that her readers will feel they can slip into and characters that they will relate to, care about and continue to think of long after the book is done. If that isn't the hallmark of a great writer, I'm not sure what is. Any reader who enjoys historical fiction, stories with a strong female protagonist, or just a great work of fiction in general would certainly love this book. I highly recommend The Color of Life, and am looking forward to seeing what author Claudette Carrida Jeffries has in store for her readers next. If it's anything like this, it will certainly find a place on my "must read" list!
