Matt and Maddie Blossom are healthy eaters. This is not by their choice but at their mom's insistence. They watch their friends devour junk food during school lunch while they eat apples or carrots. Just once, they would love to gorge on sugary treats like the other kids. One day, while at the grocery store, they ask if they may have donuts. To their surprise, their mom agrees, letting them get whatever they want. As soon as they are home, they eat every single sweet treat: fruit filled, cream filled, chocolate covered, sprinkled. They gobble everything down. Then the sugar hits. Tummy aches that they will not admit to are followed by crazy dreams. The donuts are growing on their heads! Sprinkles fall to the ground and new donuts sprout up! They run to their mom who explains that it is a junk food-induced nightmare. We are what we eat. The siblings decide that they would rather eat healthy from now on.

This is a wonderful children's book that teaches the importance of a healthy diet. The illustrations are quite lovely and the recipes at the back are like (pardon the pun) the icing on the cake, or the raisin on the peanut butter, I guess. The book is easy to read and will make a great bedtime story, family read or just something for a kiddo to snuggle up with and enjoy. I highly recommend this book for the classroom, library, home, or wherever children congregate to read!
