Fast-paced, intense, and utterly absorbing makes an apt description of The Migrant by Lucian Leonte, a novel with great potential to grab the interest of fans of sci-fi and futuristic books. Set in the future, in the 2200s, readers are introduced to two powerful characters, Brett Falco and Susan Connelly, who are fighting against all odds to immigrate into the Commons. But the country has just been founded and it has strict laws. With the help of their brilliant lawyer, Clarens Mann – a lawyer who is daring and determined and who has his own share of troubles – can they find a place in this world of the select? What would happen should Clarens fail to get the couple the results they are looking for?
There is just so much to love in this book. First off, Brett and Susan are great characters, resourceful and determined, and it’s their determination that creates the sense of impending danger throughout the novel. The author creates a very difficult conflict and allows the characters to navigate towards a denouement. The stakes are high and, at every moment, the reader is rooting for the couple, hoping against all hope that things turn out well for them.
Setting a book in the future and creating a fascinating and convincing atmosphere isn’t an easy job, but Lucian Leonte seems to have the skill for this difficult job. Readers will also love the plot and the sense of mystery that comes up at every turn. It isn’t easy to guess what could happen and the author’s unpredictable way of twisting the plot builds tension in readers and makes the story even more enjoyable. The Migrant will certainly find a welcome home with fans of this genre. I’ll recommend this one for the great writing, great characters, and compelling plot.
