Author Biography

As a young teen, R. L. Copple played in his own make-believe world, writing the stories and drawing the art for his own comics while experiencing the worlds of other authors like Tolkien, Lewis, Asimov, and Lester Del Ray. After years of writing devotionally, he returned to the passion of his youth in order to combine his fantasy worlds and faith into the reality of the printed page. Since then, his imagination has given birth to The Reality Chronicles trilogy from Splashdown Books, and Mind Game, Hero Game, Ethereal Worlds Anthology, and How to Make an Ebook: Using Free Software from Ethereal Press, along with numerous short stories in various magazines. In his Texas Hill Country residence, he continues to create and give wings to new realities so that others might enjoy and be inspired by them.

"Mind Game" is an excellent story about Jeremy, his friends and family and their encounter with the latest virtual reality game. Jeremy and his friend Mickey both receive the hottest new virtual reality game, Mind Game, for Christmas. What they don’t know about the game is that when they begin playing it, they’ll be trapped on an alien world as virtual characters – with one caveat: their virtual characters can be killed, along with their real bodies back on Earth. While they fight to find a way back home, their bodies on Earth are locked in coma. They have to figure out who is on their side and who isn’t while they try to find a way back to their bodies waiting on Earth.

This is a well-written, exciting story with lots of adventure. It appeals to all ages of science fiction/fantasy fans, new and old. There are references to new technology for younger readers along with references to older popular science fiction/fantasy movies for older readers. The characters are very relatable. When Jeremy wonders if he would be killing a “real live alien with a virtual ray gun” and decides that line of thinking gives him a headache it reminded me of time travel conversations I have had with the same result. The action keeps coming, moving the story along and keeping the reader guessing. Jeremy’s struggles leave him and the reader wondering who to trust, making the story a bit of a mystery. This roller coaster story is an exciting and entertaining ride with a little something for everyone: a little action, a little adventure, a little love interest, and a little space adventure. It is quite simply a thrill ride of the best kind.
