Written by Sarah Mackenzie and featuring illustrations by Eileen Ryan Ewen, this picture book follows Barbara's journey from her summers spent in Maine as a young girl to becoming a revered author and illustrator who roamed the world. Following her mother's footsteps, Barbara learned to paint at a young age and used her love of nature to enrich her drawings. When the publishers refused to let her use color, Barbara didn't give in and continued to perfect her style until everyone had acknowledged her talent. In her later years, she helped rebuild a historic library in Maine.

Because Barbara is a captivating true story of the life of one of the most influential American artists of the 20th century.
