Convergence of Time by Layne Walker is one of those books that makes you think: 'Oh no, I'm already close to the end... I don't want it to end!" I liked the book so much that I had to check out what else the author has written so far (not enough!).
What is it about? Gavin, a rather normal, intelligent guy, takes a trip to the desert because he doesn't feel like going to church with his family. What he did not expect was to run into some sort of invisible spider web and end up in a different world. He slowly has to accept that he is now in a world that is perfectly square, surrounded by an ocean and filled with people and creatures from different time periods and countries. Unlike others, Gavin simply doesn't stop asking questions: What is this world? Why are the people there? Is it God's plan? Have they been kidnapped by aliens? But asking questions isn't always welcome.
Convergence of Time by Layne Walker is a book that is difficult to put down. The writing is very good, the characters form in front of your mental eye and you get drawn into that weird, fascinating world. I wondered what it would be like to live in that world and whether I would want to leave it again or whether I'd be like Gavin. It is fantasy and adventure in one book that makes you dream and entertains you. I couldn't ask for more in a book!
