Current Assets: A Darcy Farthing Novel by Arleen Alleman is a story of mystery and suspense. Darcy Farthing is a novelist and while she works on her latest book, her partner Mick Clayton is in charge of a GAO investigation into asset forfeitures that have been stolen or “misplaced” from a sheriff’s office. His friend Tom Smythe works there and, as Mick arrives to see Tom, he finds him being arrested for shooting a deputy sheriff. Darcy and Mick embark on a journey to find out the truth and who is masterminding the thefts. More deputies come under attack and the pair finds themselves in the middle of a government investigation that doesn’t make sense, an investigation that winds around murder, terrorist groups, conspiracy and smuggling. As they get closer to discovering the truth, things turn nasty as Darcy and her daughter become targets. Can Darcy and Mick solve this before it’s too late?
Current Assets: A Darcy Farthing Novel by Arleen Alleman is the third in a series. I didn’t read the first two but, to be honest, I found that there was sufficient information in this one to give me the background I needed to understand what went on before. This is a story full of intrigue, drama, and plenty of suspense and action. I understand that the author used to work for the GAO (Government Accountability Office) and her experience shows in the details of the story. It is written so well and so true to life that it is easy to get caught up in the story and, indeed, this is one that I found difficult to put down. The plot is intricate, but not so much that you can’t keep up with it, and it's a thrilling plot too. Although it probably isn’t necessary, I would urge readers to grab the first two books before this one.
