Destiny Finds Her by Miranda Lynn is a time-travel historical romance. Adopted at birth, Jami Morgan has never fitted in with her mother and father’s rich lifestyle. She strives to set herself apart and make her own way in the world. All she has left of her adoptive parents is a box, two letters, and an emerald bracelet and necklace. While preparing for her mother’s Christmas ball, Jami begins to experience dream-like visions of another place and time. Finally reading the last letter, Jami starts to understand her destiny. Allowing herself to be completely transported back to 19th century Scotland, Jami realizes that an ancient clan is in peril and only she holds the keys to righting the wrongs of the past.
Miss Lynn has woven together a very creative story and excellent beginning to a series of books. The novella is compelling and draws the reader in, curious to learn more. I did feel that the time period of the 19th century did not fit some of the descriptions given by the author. For example, the men use broadswords to fight and this seemed an antiquated method, given the era. Aside from that, I did enjoy the tale of Jami and her Scottish laird. I felt the story could have been drawn out to provide more tension between the characters until they could no longer resist the pull of each other. I hope their relationship is explored further in subsequent books. I liked the contrast of a dark and light sister, but I expected more suspense and build-up. Destiny Finds Her is ideal for someone seeking a quick beach read in a far off place.
