"Ghost Plane and Other Disturbing Tales" is a short story collection of 11 stories which are organized into the categories of Airports, Hot Flashes and Gothica. The Hot Flashes, particularly, are written from the heart and provide a personal glimpse into the author whose mind, I realized, works very much along the same dark lines as my own, and probably the majority of the population's, even if she does go as far as to delve into the dark reaches of insanity. One of the author's greatest assets is that she can express herself in prose that beautifully verges on the poetic. She investigates emotions and the psyche successfully using horror as her medium.

In a fairly short work (around 15k words) that can be read in a single sitting, the variety of themes are astounding, my favorites being the Airport ones in which the general theme of dissatisfaction with life are the most realistic. Ghost Plane, the first story, had the makings of an excellent longer work. It was thrilling, interesting and unpredictable. But the ending seemed too abrupt and left a certain taste of being disappointingly short-changed. Perhaps, though, it was just a snippet and we'll see the full story elsewhere. Her writing style, however, is of such a professional caliber that she conjures up horrifying images that will stay with me for a long time. I'll certainly be looking out for her other books because I believe she's a master of the horror genre.
