Evolutionists versus Christians is the theme for John D. Viviano’s novel Order of the Master Angels: Book Four of the Adventurers, Romance and Enlightenment of Clay St. Clair and Nancy Picararo. Revolving around the ultimate reclamation of the United States into the Country of Superior, a rather bizarre plot unfolds in the Michigan area of our country. Religious zealots follow the command of God's Warrior, whose goal is to become Lifetime President of the Country of Superior. By destroying existing churches and belief structures that do not abide by his fundamentalist views, God's Warrior bribes his militia with the promise of financial security when they have fulfilled his instructions of eliminating current church buildings. In all of his confidence, God's Warrior neglects to realize the force with which his ultimate foe retaliates. Clay St. Clair has a secret weapon. “I am the unexplained superstring, the silent witness. Under my direction, my celestial orchestra vibrates.”
While reading Viviano’s novel, I continued to find metaphorical examples that exhibit a solid knowledge of Christianity. Clay St. Clair’s relationship with the Master Healing Angels reveals a strength of religious faith in the story’s main character. The twelve leaders who convene near the conclusion of the story represent the twelve disciples, in my opinion. Just the implication of such a strong argument between the evolutionist theory and the existence of God verifies Viviano’s conundrum of personal ideas. Although this is not of my normal interest level, I found Order of the Master of Angels an intriguing read.
