If you love animals and sweet stories about them, you are bound to love Paws, Tails and Tales by Angelina Dayan. As a sequel to Freddy’s Magic Garden: Incredible Cat Stories, Dayan continues her whimsical tales about cats but also includes stories about dogs and even one little pig who thinks he is one. In the collection, you will meet many of the author’s furry companions who narrate their own stories, as well as “anyone with an adventure to recount.” These stories are introduced by Freddy, an enterprising kitty who acts as a kind of editor-in-chief of all the tales about tails that come to his “little writing atelier.” In these tales, any number of mishaps and misadventures occur that will surely bring a smile to your face, or even cause you to shed a tear or two.

As a lifelong cat and dog lover, I could not help but fall in love with the idea behind Paws, Tail and Tales. Angelina Dayan writes from the heart about her Maine Coons and adopted strays that have found their way into her family. I also thought the use of Freddy as the narrator a charming way to add some sass to the sentiment of the stories that make humans secondary characters – even the author is referred to as simply Mum. The author has a lovely style that reminds me of classic animal stories, such as Watership Down or Wind in the Willows. As a Brit, she offers an approach to having pets that allows them the freedom to roam in a responsible way, which may seem unusual to many Americans, but which I applaud. We do not own our animals; we simply invite them into our lives and we are the better for it.

In the pet point-of-view book Paws, Tails and Tales by Angelina Dayan, we begin with Barnie, a boar, facing abandonment and legal battles before finding acceptance with his family. Mum shares her life with cats, including the loss of her beloved Pomponette. Various cats, like Peggy and Dex, find solace with Freddy's family. Sophie seeks the perfect home, while Griset brings joy to Freddy's garden. Misty's disappearance saddens Freddy, while Satin reluctantly becomes part of the family. Momo survives a snowstorm and is later reunited with Granny, despite ownership disputes. Snowflake and Mimi bring happiness to Granny's home, while Max and Davy find contentment in Frascati. Daisy, Biscuit, Tommy, Holly, and Charlie each have their own adventures and adjustments. Scribbles and Socks share a loving bond and find a new home with Andy, where they bring comfort and joy for as long as they are able.

Paws, Tails and Tales by Angelina Dayan is a beautifully written anthology that captures the heartwarming and sometimes heart-wrenching stories of the animals in Freddy's world. With an entertaining touch, the animals portray unexpected resilience, love, and friendships. From Mum's devotion to her feline family to Momo's bond with Granny, each story is a testament to the enduring relationship between humans and animals. While there are moments of sadness and fear, such as Uddy's disappearance and Misty's mysterious disappearance, there are also uplifting moments of attachment and love, like Max and Davy finding happiness after being separated from their mother and adopted by the town, Holly learning to trust humans, and Charlie's adventurous spirit leading him to settle into a secure environment. Dayan's writing is like a breath of fresh air to our most beloved friends, and Paws, Tails and Tales is a delightful read for animal lovers of all ages.

Paws, Tails and Tales: Cat and Dog Stories from Freddy's Garden by Angelina Dayan is the second book of the Cat Stories from Freddy’s Garden series. Following the success of his first book, Freddy decides to open an atelier where his furry friends can come and share their incredible stories. His first guest, who unexpectedly turns out to be a pig, narrates how the courage and determination of his family helped them to keep him against all odds. Visitors, each with their own marvelous stories, keep coming in, much to Freddy’s delight.

Angelina Dayan’s Paws, Tails and Tales: Cat and Dog Stories from Freddy's Garden is just as amazing as the first book. I was delighted to have Freddy back; his engaging voice and that of his friends made it hard for me to put the book down. Angelina’s imagination makes their stories even more intriguing. I also love the way she paints their diverse traits and personalities. It helps to show how intelligent animals are, which is often more than we want to give them credit for. The book includes tales featuring adorable canines and felines in the voice of Freddy, his mum, and others. Apart from the ones penned by Angelina, it contains several equally charming stories by guest authors. Although it is the second book, it can be read as a standalone. The stories are easy to follow, and I would recommend the book to all animal lovers looking for a relaxing read.
