Purrrfect As I Am is written by Lisa Jacovsky and illustrated by Brainstorm Productions. Bones is a sweet little kitten with Hydrocephalus that makes him special to his human family. His two brothers are special, too. They have Cerebral Hypoplasia. All three kittens are special in their own ways. Bones has fluid that builds up in his spine, which means he has to see the vet. Bender has three legs, and Beau is blind. Even with these medical issues, the three kittens eat, drink, play, cuddle, and purr just like any other kitten. Are the kittens happy with their humans? Do their medical problems keep them from doing things most cats can do? Can they jump, play, and chase toys like other kittens?
Purrrfect As I Am is an adorable children’s story that highlights the importance of embracing differences. I love the way Bones is in the lead, telling the story about the medical problems he and his brothers face. This book is a wonderful way for kids to learn how disabilities and differences make us special and don’t have to stop us from leading perfectly normal lives. The illustrations by Brainstorm Productions add beauty and character to the story that will keep kids flipping through the pages to see what these kittens will be up to next. I recommend Purrrfect As I Am by Lisa Jacovsky to young children who enjoy stories about pets and how special having them around can be. Stories like this should be on every young child’s bookshelf.
