Tainted Gold by Layne Walker is a story about how things can go terribly wrong if you only care about becoming rich. A guy called Donny is the main character and he's not exactly successful, i.e. he loses one job after the other because he simply can't be on time or be reliable. All he wants is a life full of money, food, drink, and girls. It seems his dream could come true when he discovers a portal to an alternative world.
It is a world in which America has not been colonized by the white people, in which all the gold has never been found. Donny sees this as his chance to become rich. He simply has to get the gold and return to his world. However, he knows he cannot do this alone, so he asks his brother for help and ends up with a team of workers and two women (a doctor and her assistant/friend). But it would not be a story worth telling if it was so easy to get that gold, would it? Donny will face a variety of problems ranging from falling in love with a woman out of his league and an Indian who takes offence at his presence and swears to kill the whole team.
Layne Walker wrote a story that is very entertaining and also surprising. Tainted Gold is a book you won't want to put down because the author makes you think things like 'No, he would not really let that happen to his characters.' Guess what? That author knows no mercy! There are heaps of surprises and that's quite rare in a book these days. It's an excellent piece of fiction and I'm quite motivated to read more by the same author.
