The Book of Thomas is a work of fiction in the horror, suspense, and psychological thriller subgenres. It is best suited to mature readings owing to explicit language throughout and the presence of graphic violence. Penned by author Craig R Key, we find ourselves following the ever-crossing paths of Nathan and Sean, two television hosts who have had a rough time recently when their co-hosted show about haunted places is canceled. When a struggling Nathan sets out on a new documentary venture involving his birth parents, he and Sean discover that some things should be kept in the past, and exploring them again can lead to a truly horrifying situation in the future.

Author Craig R Key has crafted a masterful work that balances horror and thriller perfectly to offer something complex and harrowing, but never overdone. One of the features that I really enjoyed and followed closely was Nathan’s mental state and the journey that his psyche and well-being take during the events of the novel, which really put him to the test in realistic ways. The town of Krippe was a superb highlight too, filled to the brim with quiet suspense and cinematic, atmospheric descriptions that make the reading experience all the more intense. Sean’s paranoia is offset wonderfully by some cutting dialogue exchanges that really showcase the differences in the two lead characters’ personalities, and the ongoing pressure of their career situation drives them credibly toward some very questionable decisions, with nail-biting results. Overall, The Book of Thomas is a deeply engaging, edge-of-your-seat work of modern horror that will tick all the boxes for fans of horror, mystery, and psychological thrillers alike.
