It’s awful to be alone during the holidays. It’s especially awful when your relationship ended just a few weeks before Christmas. Aside from the loneliness, you have to deal with the pitying remarks from your friends and relatives at holiday events. And that’s what makes Jessica and Jake decide to pretend to be in a relationship for the duration of the holiday season. The Christmas Boyfriend by Maura Beth Brennan is a warm-hearted story of two people who were dumped before Christmas. While attending events together will stave off comments from well-meaning friends, for Jessica, there is a second purpose. With Jake on her arm, she intends to make her ex, Dylan, jealous and win him back. So blinded by her love for Dylan, she doesn’t realize what a prize she has in Jake and is blind to Jake's love for her.

This is a fun story about two people who begin by pretending to be in a relationship but, of course, this being a romance, develop feelings for each other. In The Christmas Boyfriend, Maura Beth Brennan creates the kind of hero in Jake that most women would cherish. On the other hand, I frequently wanted to scream at Jessica for being so in love with Dylan that she ignored all the red flags. I can easily picture anyone wanting to curl up by a fire and read this book on Christmas morning. It would make a fine Christmas gift for the romantic partner in your life.
