In The Gunman And The Angel by George Snyder, the action begins from the first chapter of this book, a cleverly constructed tale of unrequited love, revenge, and action set against the backdrop of North Carolina. Dan is a gunfighter and takes a young girl called Mandy under his wing. They share a common goal and that is to get revenge for the brutal deaths of their families at the hands of Monte Steep and his gang. Steep's gang has already fallen and now only Steep remains. Mandy begins to fall in love with Dan, but he quickly spurns her advances, because to him, she is still that small girl he rescued. She finds love elsewhere and they are soon parted, but Dan continues his search for Steep. Mandy and Dan are reunited years later, but will Dan finally admit his love for her? Mandy now must choose between her love for the gunfighter and their search for vengeance, or the life of luxury she now has. Will they ever track down Steep and will revenge be theirs?
The Gunman And The Angel by George Snyder is an action-packed story of two tortured and lonely souls that have been brought together by tragedy. The dialogue is authentic and perfect for each character. The author has clearly researched his genre, because his descriptive writing throughout transported you back in time. The story line was exciting and kept you on the edge of your seat. The relationship between Dan and Mandy was realistic and heartwarming. This book is my first Western, but I will certainly be reading more from this author and I would love to see a sequel to this story.
