Twins Aiden and Noah had never had an easy life. Their mother’s unexplained disappearance was a giant blow to the boys. Moreover, they were perpetually moving from town to town with their father, the famous investigator Roger Raven. When the trio arrives at the eerily silent, almost haunted town of Herisdell, the twins are shocked to learn of the recent string of disappearances. As they befriend Phen, a boy from school, and gain an unlikely ally in a mysterious girl following them, the twins realize that the town’s past might endanger their lives. Find out more about Aiden and Noah’s spooky adventures in The Raven’s Crux, a YA paranormal novel by Julie Boglisch.

While the book was primarily plot-driven, the portrayal of the characters amazed me. By describing even the minutest emotions they showed, Julie Boglisch ensured that readers could forge a firm bond with them. I loved how she portrayed the differences between the twins, with Aiden being more cynical and introverted and Noah being easy-going and exuberant. The chemistry between them was wholesome, with each twin understanding the other, giving them space, and respecting their choices. Despite their ongoing banter, they were ready to face any battle to save each other. Their stubbornness and intense determination helped them succeed. As the story progressed, it revealed an otherworldly realm teeming with disgruntled spirits, hauntings, and possessions. As Aiden, Noah, and Phen tried to win against an unidentified, vicious killer who somehow knew their every move, the book offered a bone-chilling reading experience. Lively interactions with a benevolent and fiercely protective ghost and the threads of a budding romance created a contrasting backdrop to the otherwise tense story. I recommend The Raven’s Crux to those who appreciate paranormal mysteries and ghost stories.
