The loss of a loved one is always difficult to bear and it can be tough to explain the loss of a loved one to children. In What Happens When Someone I Love Can't Get Better, Sara Olsher and Jenni Rogers introduce the concept of death in a way that is accessible and easy for children to grasp without leaving any emotional trauma. In this picture book, a little girl named Mia explains to her stuffed giraffe, Stuart, how our bodies work, why, and when our internal organs stop working, and why sometimes even the medicine provided by doctors doesn't work. The book also educates young readers on ways to navigate grief. Channeling grief through extra-curricular activities such as watching movies, playing outdoors, drawing, or spending time with your loved one are a few healthy ways to deal with grief.

This is one of those books that are a must-have in schools, libraries, hospitals, hospice care facilities, and homes with children. What Happens When Someone I Love Can't Get Better provides the young reader with clear and concise information about how human bodies work and why they stop working. Adults can use this book to prepare children for the passing of a loved one. Using lively illustrations and thorough and engaging descriptions, Sara Olsher and Jenni Rogers ensure that youngsters will find it easy to understand the subject matter and learn why it is necessary to acquire this knowledge. So grab a copy and gently introduce kids to the concept of death and teach them how to navigate grief through healthy channels. Highly recommended.
