Book Review John Ronan takes readers on a walk down memory lane. Ronan begins with 1946--the first year of the Baby Boomer generation--and ends with 1955. Yes, I am member of that club falling, in there toward the end. He shares a lot of quotes and lists. There are lists of people born each year. I love the quotes by Aunt Marge, “Rule #1, after 50, act your age.Rule #2 after 50 there ain’t any rules.” Ronan also asks an interesting question, “Why is it death sentences are delayed, sometimes commuted-because of ill health.” We are reminded of what was happening in the news and important events …like when the first issue of Sports Illustrated came out.
All in all, Damned If I Dotage: The Baby Boomer Faces 50 is an entertaining book. Quizzes and trivia abound in this book. I spent a lot of time in 1953 and 1954. Those years are very special. Two special people were born in those years. Ronan left out our…err..their names. My favorite part is the Aunt Marge quotes. I don’t know Aunt Marge, but she has a bit of wisdom mixed with her humor. I think I’ll follow her rule #2 from now on. |
