Book Review
Dem Church Folk is a humorous look at churches. Bubba Lee grew up in a small southern church. He and his family wold spend all day at church on Sundays. It was a Pentecostal church and when the Spirit moved the congregation would jump, shout, and dance. He questioned whether they were filled with the Spirit or if they just wanted the attention.
Bubba grew up and went into the ministry. He witnessed constant conflict in his church and children learning and demonstrating disrespect. Most churches face these same problems.
The characters are quirky and a touch over-the-top. Marion W. McKenney is a talented author. She captures the southern dialect perfectly. The problems faced in churches are the same regardless of the denomination or size.
I’ve seen this book referred to as a children’s book. I don’t see it fitting that genre. I see it as a satirical look at churches.

This book was funny and amazing. It reminded me of my own personal experiences in church. I can't wait to see the movie.
