Author Biography

Monica M. Brinkman lived in the Philadelphia, PA area, relocated to the California Bay, where she resided for thirty years and now resides in the St. Louis, MO area, which was the inspiration of her newest book, The Turn of the Karmic Wheel.

She views herself as a citizen of all the States, finding that people throughout the country are warm, caring and most want the same things in life, to enjoy their passions, make a living and be surrounded by those they love. In her own words, "Life is truly an adventure. I believe in giving everyone the opportunity to go after their passions in life. To not do so, creates hostility, depression and emptiness."

A free-lance author and poet, she embraces stories that have meaning and purpose. Though a bit of a rebel, when some authors told her that no one would ever read a story set in the Missouri Ozarks, nor would they wish to read a mixed genre, that was all it took. "How dare they insult the intelligence of our readers by placing them in a box". Thus began The Turn of the Karmic Wheel, set in the small rural college town of Raleigh, MO. It is speculative genre containing suspense, horror, spiritutality and a touch of the paranormal. Monica is working on the sequel, The Wheels Final Turn,to be released early 2012.

    Book Review

Reviewed by Anne Boiling for Readers' Favorite

The setting is the small town Raleigh, Missouri. This book begins by introducing the readers to a diverse group of characters at first they seem to have no connection except, they all live in the same town. As the plot develops the reader watches as their lives cross paths. The main characters are average every day people. Angela, Karman and Euclid are the “good” people. The bad people are Joshua, Monty and Rosie. Their sins are gluttony, covetousness and disregard for others. The sins are about to catch up with the bad guys. Some of the things that happen to them will turn your stomach (You just might want to check out your facial cream and toothpaste before using it). There were visions, voices and odd happenings in the town.

The Turn of the Karmic Wheel takes a look at Karma, a more frightening look. The premise of this book is that we all have decisions to make and each decision has consequences. There is a depth to the plot. When you read between the lines the reader will take a look at today’s culture, greed, lust, envy rules. However, there is always hope, in the few selfless individuals that exist.

Author Monica Brinkman is talented. She has created a unique plot and vibrant characters. The genre is a cross between thriller and horror. This is the first book in the new Karmic Wheel Series. I look forward to reading the next one.

Monica Brinkman asks us to actually stop and think about karma. By bringing it as a force into her characters' lives instead of positing it as the result of reincarnation. By doing so she makes the reader recognize his(her) immediate responsibility for life choices and style. Bravo.

Monica is not only extremely talented but brave as well. She is not afraid to ''break the rules'' and write about every day people. Her characters are vibrant, real and make us think about our own decisions and paths in life. A great book.
