Author Biography Lyndon Akins is a Senior Vice President with Aon Integramark in Atlanta. In 2009, he received a Master of Divinity Degree from Luther Rice University and is a graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He has been teaching Bible study classes since college and currently leads a Sunday School class for young married couples at Dunwoody Baptist Church. Lyndon and his wife Terry were married in 1985 and currently reside in Atlanta with their daughter, who attends Marist High School.
Travels with Abraham and Sarah: In Search of a Godly Marriage is Akins first book. It is written specifically for newlywed and young married couples with a unique approach to presenting key relationship advice in a fresh, contemporary way - particularly surrounding issues that married couples typically face in their first five years together.
Unlike traditional Christian marriage books that primarily focus on scripture teachings, Travels with Abraham and Sarah: In Search of a Godly Marriage reads like a novel, allowing readers to experience the adventures, triumphs, joys and heartaches of Biblical characters Abraham and Sarah as they pursue God's purpose for their lives and marriage. Based off a 10-part marriage series created and taught by Akins, the book offers a glimpse into real life situations while bringing to life essential marriage principles.
Book Review Reviewed by Elizabeth M. for ReadersFavorite.com
This book discusses marriage from a Biblical perspective. I believe that anyone, married or not, would experience what the true meaning of marriage is in our society today, and how what happened back in ancient times is applicable to what is going on in the world currently. The author discusses their life in the beginning, and how they came to writing this manuscript. I found this fascinating because of how much was learned over the years. Much wisdom from their experience and the Bible is prominent throughout their writing. Everything that was written is practical because of how Lyndon frequently refers to the book of Genesis.
I believe anyone would benefit from reading this book, but they have to keep an open mind on wanting to learn new concepts from God's Word. Regardless, this book has much to offer individuals and couples everywhere who are seeking to become better people.
