Book Review First let me say that I am white. I was completely ignorant of the flocks of Black American Men who travel to places, such as Rio, to sexually conquer their fantasies. This book has clips of interviews from successful Black men. In the interviews, men try to explain and often try to justify their reasoning behind this often regular trip.
So, why do these men do this? In a nutshell, they do not find Black women attractive any more. They describe physical, sexual, and personality flaws of Black women. They praise the feminine nature of the women in Rio. Obviously, the married men who travel abroad for sex should be ashamed of themselves; they made vows to their wife in front of God. However, maybe the Black women have lost their charisma. These men claim that the Brazilian women will do anything sexually. It is mentioned that perhaps the Black churches encourage Black women to be sexually repressed.
There is so much in this book to digest. My head is still spinning. It is excellently written and amazingly researched. Whether for curiosity or for defense, women need to read this—especially Black women. Women need the information in this book in order to be proactive. |

I first read about Black men and Rio in a magazine for African American women. This book was more in detail, as to why black men go to Brazil for sex. In-Their-Own words give many examples of black men's opionions, beliefs, and sexual experience with Brazilian women. In addition, the same with African American women, but mostly negative. The author gives facts as to why these men go to Brazil--to have the kind of sex, attention, and women that is not easily found in America. Unfortunately, there's no mentioning of friendship, intimacy, compassion or love between Americans and Brazilians.

This an interesting book. I agree with some of the authors ideas. But one would have to say that men are going there because the woman can be enjoyed and exploited due to economics.
If these woman had the options would they be so available to be with the men as companions. It is sad that Black male and Female relationships are so complex at times and not beneficial to either party.
I am glad I read the book.
