Book Review Reviewed by Anne B. for Readers Favorite
This is a review of the audio book of "Lost In Time" by Lois Duncan.
Nore was surprised that her father had remarried so soon after her mother’s death. The boarding school she attended was closed for the summer so that she would spend the time in Louisiana with her father and his new family. Her new step mother, Lisette, was beautiful. There was also a step brother, Gabe, and sister Josie. Nore sensed something strange about the family and their behavior. When she discovers their secret her own life is in danger.
I was quickly captivated by this story. The author leaves many clues for the reader. I figured out the secret before Nore did; however, this did not detract from the plot. The characters are vividly developed. I liked Gabe and Josie and had empathy for them although they were part of the secret. Nore is a strong female lead; however; her father is a disappointment. I wanted him to be stronger and more loyal to his daughter. At times I wondered whether he is weak, inattentive or bewitched by Lisette. Lisette is really ugly, evil and selfish.
The pace of the plot is perfect. The author does not rush the tale; she allows it to build at just the right tempo. The suspense slowly builds to a crescendo. The ending is satisfying. The voice of the narrator, Jaselyn Blanchard, is flawless. I can’t imagine any other voice capable of bringing the correct ambiance to this story. I highly recommend this book!
