Book Review Reviewed by Lori M for Readers Favorite
You MUST see the fabulous illustrations in this book. They are out of this world. My favorite is the one of Times Square in New York with the Broadway posters reading, “Meow Miserables,” “The Kitty of the Opera,” and “Meow Mia!”
In Dreaming of Kittlyland, we are once again introduced to Jekyll the cat who inspires us to learn more about the place where cats have always lived and always will. I think Kittyland is the cat version of Disneyland for Humans. There are kitty bakeries with pastries and snickerdoodles, cobblestone streets in the city and big red barns in the country, and kitty chefs who whip up meals right out of the water from the brook. I adore the illustration of the cat sitting on the park bench eating a cupcake and feeding crumbs to the Cardinal birds. Too precious!
Author D. C. Blackbird certainly has a sense of humor as she included “jazz cats” and Elvis-look-alike cats in her book. It reminds me of the Batman television series intended for kids but also filled with things that only the adults could understand. It is a cute little book with the best illustrations ever and something fun for everyone including beach scenes, circus acrobatics, acting and directing and just about anything else that you can think of. I wonder if anyone ever gets any sleep in Kittyland because there are so many fun things to do. Toward the end of the book, the author includes little lessons for kids like the need to make time to go to school and not just have fun all day.
