Book Review
Reviewed by Anne B. for Readers Favorite

If the title of this book didn’t tickle my funny bone the setting would, Bugtussle, Mississippi. I think Granny of the Beverly Hillbillies mentioned Bugtussle often with great affection. The title and setting combined keyed me to the fact this was a book I wanted to read. The drama and situations featured in this book may seem over the top to some readers but not to this southern belle. In the south everything is over the top, that’s why I love living here.

The plot revolves around 3 girlfriends, each with their own drama. It was easy to figure out the star and heroine of the book by the title. “Ace” is...well...let’s say pleasingly plump, bless her little heart. The man of her dreams/childhood has asked her to marry him. He not only asked he begged, now that’s my kind of man. Ace’s best friends are Chloe and Lilly.

The plot moves along at a rapid speed. The author is a master at overstatement, magnification and exaggeration. Stephanie McAfee’s writing style reminds of my hero Janet Evanovich. She can make anything and everything funny. I found myself laughing out loud more than once. I finally left the room because my husband complained I was laughing so hard he couldn’t hear his favorite TV show. I don’t know how any woman could not relate in some way to the characters in this book.

This tale was written for the 30 something crowd but this 50 something gal loved it. The characters are sassy, a little brassy, sweet as southern tea, and a bit naughty, bless their little hearts. I hope this book has a sequel, maybe a whole series of books surrounding these characters. I can even envision a movie in the future. Yes this is pure chick-lit and I loved every word of it.
