“Out and About at the Zoo” by Jo Linsdell is an ideal little book for use as a bed time story as well as for beginning readers to practice their reading skills. It is very colorful, charmingly illustrated, and written in rhyme which, I have always believed, helps maintain a child’s interest. With beginning readers, parents will have to explain the British spelling of “colourful” and possibly the use of the word “mum”, but those are far from being deal breakers; it is still a cute and entertaining addition to any child’s beginning library.

As is common in children’s books, some of the rhyming meter is a bit tricky. That will simply require the adult to read through the book once before reading it aloud, just to grasp the proper meter of the rhyming. One cute feature is that every animal in the zoo is looking straight out at the child, and smiling. Smiles being contagious, this will only add to your child’s enjoyment of the book. I realize there are literally millions of children’s books on the market. I have a young grandchild of my own, and acquiring books for him has been a top priority for us. I wouldn’t hesitate to make "Out and About at the Zoo" one of our purchases for him. I likewise wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this book to others who are in the market for good, colorful, attention-holding children’s books. It is short, colorful, attention-grabbing, and easy to read. It has cute characters, is well-illustrated, and in general has everything you want in a child’s book.
